About us

The Halstock & Blackertor studs are breeders of Miniature Shetland ponies & Standard Shetland ponies here at Lower Halstock Farm, Okehampton on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. The natural environment and grazing is ideally suited to the breeding and management of native ponies.

The stud was first created by John Hodge in the late 60’s and is now run by David & Julian. In the late 90’s the stud also included the addition of other native breeds including Welsh Mountain ponies and more recently Dartmoor ponies. Running along side this is also a small stud of American miniature horses and also Miniature British Spotted Ponies.

Never afraid to use a variation of bloodlines from here to Shetland, we are always striving to improve our quality.
